Painting Friends.

Hello All!I am so excited to finally share this artwork with you! Throughout this first trimester at uni I took an art unit that taught how to draw and paint the human body. I have not had so much fun in classes at uni since, well, art classes at school. Don’t get me wrong I love photography but being able to paint and draw and see almost instant progress is very satisfying and you get to do it all around new friends and fun, eccentric art teachers.For my Second project I painted my friend Alex. My previous Pastor’s daughter who lights up every room with her Father’s wit and her Mother’s beauty. For the project, we had to take images of our chosen subject to paint from. So, after two years of trying to convince Alex to model for me, I finally got to take film shots of her beautiful face.Below is a collage of my process of painting Alex, starting from left to right. My process is a strange one, I love Leonardo Da Vinci and his process of starting from the bare bones and muscles of a human and putting layer upon layer on the canvas until you finally have his immaculate artworks of people. So, I started at the bare tones (rather than muscles…. I’m only an amateur atm) and did the basic picture. Then I built upon that, adding more and more detail to the facial structure and light and then painted on top of that again maybe two more times and got to the final image (displayed at the bottom right corner).Also find below the picture I took of Alex and compare and enjoy my first portrait painting and also the fastest painting I have ever done.You will see a funny spot near the centre of her forehead….I accidentally splattered red paint there and had trouble covering it up. I do also need to touch up her eyes but nevertheless she is complete!

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.” – Psalm 139:14-16
